When we are trying to delete a virus in the chest. Will the Avast only delete the virus? (So the infected files/programs are still in my computer after I delete the virus and I can continue to use the infected files/programs without any problems) Or will the Avast delete all of them? (Virus and the infected files/programs. But I just wondered, if Avast delete them both, then my “precious” files/programs will be all gone? :'()
It will delete the file that’s stated in the virus chest. avast can’t just, “delete” an enitre program. However, if an executable file that is needed to “run” the program gets infected, and that goes in the chest and you delete it, then yes there is a possibility that the program won’t run anymore. However, you can just repair the program, or copy the file from the install CD that came with the program to get it back up and running.
Haven’t seen many viruses out there today that can infect an existing file though, usually, they just create their own files to wreak havoc on your system.
Long story short: When a virus infects a particular file, then yes, the file itself becomes infected.
So, if you have a word document with a virus in it, you’ll more than likely lose the file (some files MAY be cleaned), but you won’t lose Word itself. Hopefully that’s clear enough.
If you sent the infected file to the chest when avast detected it then there shouldn’t be a copy of that file anywhere else other than the chest. Unless a) you put it back and excluded it from scans, b) the move to the chest failed (you would have got an error pop-up) or c) you added it (manually) the the User Files section of the chest a copy would be in the original location.
So when you delete a file from the chest it does what it says on the tin - deletes the file from the chest. There shouldn’t be a both of them situation, there should only be one.
You can’t continue to use infected files avast would alert, unless as I said you excluded them from scans.
If your files are important to you then you should take measures to back-up these files as it isn’t just viruses, etc. that can cause the los of important files.
