deleting files from virus chest

Hello everyone,

I’m new to this and need some help. A virus has been detected in my computer with the following details:

Filename: regscan.exe
FileID: 100
Virus Description: Win 32: Agent-CJR [Trj]

It is now in my virus chest. Can I safely delete it? I scanned the file in the virus chest. Is there a danger that this will spread to my computer when i do this?

Thanks.

any file in the chest can not spread. If you delete it then it will be gone just like any other deleted file and can not spread.

You don’t mention where this file was located, e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?

You have done the right thing, ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate. Using goggle, etc. and a search for regscan.exe returns many hits.

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

hello DavidR,

you write: If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.
but how can I scan inside the chest ??? ....I find there only one button: "check out"(in german:"prüfen"), but nothing for scanning?! regards horbar

Right click on the file and you have an option to Scan, Or from the File Menu you should also have the option to Scan.
