Dennis Technology Labs UK - June 2013 report on AV products incl. Avast 7 free

11 June 2013 - Dennis Technology Labs UK issued its report on tested AV products including Avast 7 free. The tests were done on Windows XP machines and used current real-world malware threats to measure the effectiveness of some of the most popular antivirus programs. Results for Avast 7 free were good.

The report is on a PDF at the following URL: -

It’s an interesting read.

So many testing sites still using Avast 7. Again MSE scoring very low. Why anyone would use it is beyond me.

Please no unnecessary comments such as “These tests mean nothing”. Thanks.

  1. People use it because it is far and away the easiest AV to access, install, and use. Folks like to keep it simple.

  2. Such comments (and whether or not they are welcome) would surely be a matter for the OP.

The fact that it might be easier for some to use is irreverent to professional testing labs. Companies that conduct these tests soould always be using the most current versions of that software. Especially when it may address bugs and other issues. My italicized comment was directed at a few forum members who always have a negative comment to say when such tests are posts such as AV Comparatives or AV Test.org

Would have been helpful to mention that as test results should be taken just as momentary “one frame in the whole of a film”.
Tests and statistics, both as reliable as the way how they are being presented and for what purpose,
