al968,
if you produced a product … that you wanted to be one of the best in the market … that would beat your rivals and try to beat the “hordes of the things” - ie the bad guys producing all the viruses and malware out there … would you answer your question?
Well Actually I believe all the techniques for identifying viruses have been found now its just a matter of how many each antivirus uses, for example I believe that Avast uses binary search like every antivirus but I don’t know if it uses MD5 Hash matching which is also very well used.
Thanks

avast must use all the well known methods - they are clearly not going to miss a trick that is known … and the ones they might have that are not known … you and I will never know.
Actually if I am pointing that out it is because It does not seem to me that Avast uses MD5 Hash Detection or if it does not enough(according to me).

ahhh … now I see.
I will be quiet while you guide the avast team to the building of a better anti-virus product.

All I was asking for was a responce from the avast team, as far as I am concerned you don’t know either how they make the virus detection and so all that this is going is starting an argument that wasn’'t required so that my question be answer.
"I will be quiet while you guide the avast team to the building of a better anti-virus product. "
No I am not telling the Avast tem how to make their product I am just offering a sugestion as many people have already done and will continue to do.

Avast uses multiple kinds of detections, various checksums, string scanning, algorithmic search, etc. I don’t believe anybody would provide you with further details, as it is not wise from both business & security points of view.
ok thanks
