Detection Updates

I am new to using Avast Home, just installed it yesterday. I was just wondering if there is any particular pattern as to when updated detection files are released. Is it daily or weekly, or is there even a set pattern?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Canuk,

This depends. When there is a lot of new virus activity you could well have 2 updates a day, but this is rare, recently I experienced a week-day update. Go to the main site of avast to see the latest update number or check whether you have the latest update. Besides now and then there is a new programme update available for you. You should always have the latest update on your comp. I advise you to do a full system scan biweekly to catch the latest viruses, that escaped the scanner because of the s0-called vulnerability window. I for one once in a while have bitdefender do a full system scan with their on-line scanner, their latest one is version 8. They scan all the object in all the folders and your boot sectors, your archives and packed files and list the number of files identified, infected, suspect, warnings, disinfected, deleted. And of course total scantime.
That’s all,

Nope just as and when required, no extra updates to make it look good either

Thanks for your replies. I am happy with AVAST so far. As long as it does its’ job and doesn’t interfere with my pc I am a happy camper.

You wouldn’t believe the problem I had yesterday when I tried to use the trial version of Panda. Sent my pc into a constant start-restart loop that took me about 2 hours to correct. I’ll never try that one again.

i`d recommend choosing the option for “automatic updates” (in settings)

Hi canuk,

Just a couple of extra words here for you. If you keep up with the “digital hygiene rules”, and think first than click, you are quite safe on a computer. In normal life you would not go to a dark back-alley either, lest you be clubbed over the head. With a computer it is the same like in the real life theater. Have an AV product, where we advise AVAST, have a firewall like ZA or Kerio or Sygate, this also an absolute must. Finaly an anti-adware and spyware solution. If not you have your computer overrun by malware in less than 20 minutes.

Have a nice day,

Thanks for the advice Omar but I am well aware of that since I repair computers lol. I was just relating an experience I had to you.

BTW autoupdate is working just fine… just got an update
