Immediately at Desktop the Blue a Ball rotated and PC dialled out.
However I thought I had fixed it . the Blue (a) Ball not rotting and the PC not dialling out. How? I am sorry to say that I used “poke and hope” method.
Now I am in more trouble. An AVAST Red pop up tells me that it cannot connect to server. I ask please … “what is the server and what has my poke and hope messed up?

Avast is just trying to connect to its server to see if there are updates.
What are your settings under ‘auto-update’?
Can you connect the Internet (dial) and after try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
Hi Folks
Tried the repair and was informed that it was successful.
Just booted up now and the red AVAST popped up saying that it was"unable to download…" “Cannot connect to server”
Both tick options are on Automatic update.
At least it does not dial out on boot up. 
I put AVAST on my freinds laptop PC last year, no probs at all!!
Any more ideas please Regards geryhatric
PS. What should the SMPT settings be?
What is under update (connections) in the settings?
