Did Avast! Have an update?

Hello! I am currently running Avast! Free Antivirus 23.12.6094, Windows 11 Home.
Edit: program updates are set to manual, virus definitions update set to automatic with streaming updates enabled

There hasn’t been an Avast! program update since the 23.12 one in December.

The info in the update section reflected this, until today when I noticed that it had changed to:

Release date was 29th January 2024, 02.50pm (ver. 23.12.6094 - build 23.12.8700.815)

In control panel, Avast shows the same installed date as the update from December, with version 23.12.6094

Can anyone confirm if this is normal?

Avast 24.1 is still in beta testing and ‘should’ be released soon assuming nothing is found that would stop it going to release.

Avast 23.12.6094 (build 23.12.8700.813) is still the current version on my installation.

I can only assume (dangerous I know) that the date relates to the date checked, however your build number is slightly higher than mine (build 23.12.8700.815). So there may have been an interim/minor update. My program updates are set to Manual (as I monitor the forums) and update if there are features/functions I use that have been updated.

Thanks for checking!

I forgot to mention in my post that I have my updates set to Manual too. As far as I’m aware, there hasn’t been any notifications that an update was available/downloaded.

You’re welcome.

I suspect if I did a manual check I may find the same minor/incremental update to the 23.12.6094.

EDIT: just checked and the same as previously reported.
I don’t have all of the Avast Free antivirus, so that is al possibility of an update to a component.

Just a guess, but the build number may be different depending on the operating system. I also have it ending .813, but me and you are on Windows 10 while OP is on Windows 11. Perhaps someone else with Windows 11 can confirm, but that’s my guess without further info.

EDIT: I just did a restart and noticed the same thing thing as velvetine. Same build number ending in .815, same release date and time (I assume you’re in the Eastern time zone as well). I suspect this is related to an Emergency Update, as I also noticed that the number of files in Avast’s Program Files folder increased and the Date Modified date and time on many key files in the Program Files folder lines up with when the Avast Emergency Update (which is every four hours) ran in the Task Scheduler.

So, to answer your question: yes it looks like they had a minor update that may have been pushed to some users and not others, or to all users and it’s only reflective on a restart.

When I restarted the build it went to 0.815.
the same thing happened to you.
I realized that sometimes it’s good to restart to modify the compilation.
Avast should warn me, because if I go weeks without restarting I won’t update the product. :-[

So it went from 23.12.8700.813 to 23.12.8700.815 - this is a 0.0.002 build increment and no change to the actual program version 23.12.6094 and you think everyone (hundreds of millions should get notified about this.

Of course if you want to be ahead of the curve, you could always be a beta user.

Exactly that friend, you got it right, you should really send the message to everyone at once.
The avast beta comes with a lot of problems.

That was me joking, I guess you missed that.

Sending notifications to hundreds of millions of users about a 0.0.002 build increment. Some would consider this way over the top, when you consider how they handle actual program updates, not miniscule build updates. This would be more likely to pi55 off users.

Now I understand friend… you’re right… hahaha
Really small update as you explained is really not necessary. Because if it were necessary or an essential update, I think Avast would send the notification.
