I had no personal, files on this particular laptop. Today avast ran a scan and found a threat appon removing it. it asked me to restart my computer so I did. When I tried to log into my windows using my password. It said the group policy mode was no longer in service!!! I could not log into my computer not even in safe mode!!! I was forced to do a system recovery. This is my old laptop I didn’t lose any personal info but avast should check into this problem. I am 100% sure it was avast that removed the windows file. I was not able to send the file to avast nor did I remember the file name removed. I could not log into windows.
You haven’t given a lot of detail to go on.
An unknown version of Avast, maybe free, maybe paid, installed in a non specified operating system, and with an unspecified virus definition update, found an unspecified threat when running an unspecified type of scan. No mention of what the action settings were, so could be default or an automatic option set by user. Seems likely either way one of the options other than move to chest was chosen. No idea of what file was involved.
You could help by providing some of the information, and you may even now be able to find out more from Windows Event Viewer.
Check your Windows Event logs, and look for errors related to that issue.
Post what you find.
