Did Avast upload files?

Hello, Avast did something strange awhile ago. I’m not sure what happened. Any help would be appreciated.

On 01/20/15 I updated my virus definitions manually through the Update section in Settings. While updating, files from a folder on my desktop called J-SECURE-VAULTS appeared in the Update window. It appeared to me as if they were being uploaded so I quickly disconnected from the internet. I later went through my PC looking for Avast log files to see if they had any info on this situation but couldn’t find anything. I wish I had thought to tap the Print Screen key during the Update process. Dang it.

Any idea of what happened? Maybe this was a bug/glitch? Is there a specific log file that will show me what Avast has uploaded/downloaded over the past weeks?

I should probably mention that before I manually updated my definitions AvastEmUpdate.exe and some random number/letter named program, that Process Explorer had said belonged to AvastEmUpdate, had been running for a couple of hours. When the random named program disappeared I updated and had the problem mentioned above.

My OS is Windows XP SP3 and the version of Avast that I was using at the time is, I believe, v2015.10.0.2208. Anyone else had anything strange like this happen to them before?

It appeared to me as if they were being uploaded so I quickly disconnected from the internet.
If correct i guess avast is checking files against cloud database

anyway, it seems you dont trust your antivirus? … if so, why install it

I checked on 3 systems and none have that folder.
Is that folder still on your system?
You may have to enable “show hidden/system files/folders” in order to see it.
If the folder is there, what is in it?

I still trust Avast, it’s just that this caught me by surprise. I’ve never seen Avast do this before and would like to know what happened. When files are ready to be checked against the cloud database are they always uploaded when Avast checks for updates? Doesn’t Avast have to ask my permission first to upload? Why would Avast even want to upload these files as I’ve ran numerous custom Full System scans on my PC and found nothing wrong with the files in the J-SECURE-VAULTS folder?

The J-SECURE-VAULTS folder is from my old Lexar USB drive. It contains a bunch of setup programs like Paint.Net and Steam.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was so tired last night I was falling asleep while trying to type out my first post.
