I am trying to report a false positive by avast (on virustotal avast was the ONLY one to detect this certain file as bad. It was a cache file), but i know you are supposed to send the file in a password protected zip to virus@avast.com . My problem, it looks like vista has gotten rid of the feature to add a password to compressed zip folders. Is there a workaround for this?
What i have done now was first turn off avast, then upload the file to a draft of an email on yahoo email, and i will download it on my other computer which has windows xp in order to put it into a password protected zip and submit it. Is there some kind of workaround?
And why in the world would microsoft get rid of password protection of compressed folders for vista? That is just another dumb move on their part.
Lol. There really isn’t any way to password protect ZIP files in Vista anymore (like you could in WinXP). Thats really retarded.
What was this time? Users locking files from admins again like with the My Locked Folder or what was that tool MS released long ago and removed it because of some stupid reason? Can anyone with Vista SP1 check if the feature is back? I just restored the drive and i don’t have it installed yet…
You can also add the file to the User Files (File, Add) section of the avast chest where it can do no harm and send it from there (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). No need to zip and PW protect when the sample is sent from chest. A copy of the file/s will remain in the original location, so any further action you take can remove that.
If you had avast send the file to the chest, then there is no need to add it, open the Infected Files section of the chest and send it from there.
well david…that is a nice workaround, but i would have to use outlook express (which i dont use); I use yahoo, so I guess i’ll stick to my own personal workaround : . And for rejzor, i have my vista computer fully microsoft updated and i believe the sp1 was an update that is a normal windows update correct (you don’t have to click additional options to download it), so I don’t think microsoft updated this feature. Wow, microsoft is just getting dumber by the years.
Sending through chest still requires you to enter smtp server address and other stuff which is not something most of users even know, let alone use them properly…
