Disable Avast Email Signatures

I am required to disable the default outgoing email signatures. None of the documentation available that I can find is applicable to my issue. When I go to “Protection”, “Core Shields”, I am presented with an on/off switch for the functions. There is no way to set the preferences as was once the case. There is a gear icon on the upper right which is unresponsive.

20.6.2420 (build 20.6.5495.588) on a Windows 7 box.

Would be grateful for a solution.
