Disable the On-Access Scanner messages

Whenever an infected mail comes in, the On-Access Scanner shows a colored message at the bottom of the screen. This message is blue and white and yellow and red, and it burns me eyes. I can’t find an option to disable it - can I anyhow?

Thanx!

Check the avast help file Resident Scanners, all the settings are explained in it.

I sugest you spend some time reading the help/manual to make yourself familair with all possible settings that Avast offer you.

For sure, the box “detailed info” is not checked, the box “silent mode” is checked, the answer is “Yes”.

I think with these settings nothing should be displayed when a virus comes in - but the message is still shown. What’s my mistake?

Bye, Joe

I think you changed the settings in the wrong place. Mail is scanned by the Internet Mail provider or the Outlook/Exchange plugin. (depending on what email client you are using)

I’m using The Bat!, the only avast!-provider I’ve activated is “Internet Mail”, “Outlook/Exchange” is not activated.

When an infected mail comes in, avast! adds [avast! - INFECTED] to the subject line, and The Bat! filters these messages to the trash folder. That’s exactly what I need, nothing more.

I’ve checked all settings but can’t find an option to disable the warnings when a virus comes in. When a clean message arrives avast! keeps silent as it should be.

What more can I do? I get hundreds of virus mails a day, and everytime the coloured message appears on my screen.

Bye, Joe

General answer should be No, depending on if it is the Internet Mail provider (deletes email) ‘Yes’ as you have found accepts the email.

Standard Shield, General answer should be No, this moves infected file to chest, ‘Yes’ accepts/allows/leaves the file there.

Personally I don’t like Silent Mode, I would rather know what is going on in my computer. If you are getting so many warnings, then you should review your security.

I’ve tried all that seems possible - no effect. The messages keep annoying me.

Now I guess that it is maybe impossible to turn them off, am I right? Do all avast!-users get them when a virus comes in?

The screenshot shows what I see.

Bye, Joe

Setting Avast to run in silent mode and/or disabling “show detailed information” should take care of it.

You may set it manually in avast4.ini and I think (not sure) RejZor’s AEC (Avasts External Control) util is also able to do it.

Did you try this from my first post?

First of all: The problem is solved!

to DavidR: Your screenshots were helpful for controlling my settings, and I testet all I could - without success. I didn’t want to disable the silent mode in the Internet Mail settings because avast! began to aks what to do with the viruses.

to Eddy: I’ve downloaded Avasts External Control and found a checkbox “Show virus tag on virus detection” and disabled it.Now the coloured messages do no longer appear.

A great Thank you to both of you for the interest in my problem and the help with it!

Bye, Joe

Joelinnert, I know it’s too late and your problem was already solved…
But, if you want, you can take a look into Settings in my signature.
You will found a lot of other possibilities to configure avast 8)

Btw, the Professional version can handle all viruses automatically
