I have avast free 8.01489 and vdv 130628-1 on win7 and I need to know how to 100% diable and permanently disable the wireles/wifi unsecured network interfereing with my wireless connection.
I am aware that the wireless network is not encrypted, and that is becuase it is the free wireless provided at this location.
Since this update to avast 8.01489 this pop up about unsecure wireless will drop the connection.
I’ve clicked on that box “do not notify for this network” till I am blue in the face. I just want this to stop and quit interfering with the connection.
Short of completely removing avast, which I am about one step away from doing…how can this be disabled for good.
The free version of avast doesn’t have a firewall, so I don’t believe this “I’ve clicked on that box “do not notify for this network” till I am blue in the face.” has anything to do with avast.
Can you attach an image of what it is that you are clicking.
“Unsecure Wireless Network…Click here to start the Wifi Security Advisor…” Nice big avast popup…
This is on a remote system so unless I happen to be connected to it when this thing shows up. I’ve already disabled network shield, and it seems that really the only way to disable this thing is rm avast.
All firewalls are disabled.
I think the solution is just to delete avast period. I can’t babysit this thing any longer… it is cutting a connection that needs to be active 24/7/365, period.
I don’t know how it is cutting a connection, the avast free version isn’t/doesn’t have a firewall.
We ask questions to get a better idea of the problem, that is why I asked for a screenshot, its all right you saying it is a big avast popup, I can’t visualise it and I have never seen what you describe in the time that I have been using avast free (a little over nine years).
Please open up Avast and show use which version you are using. Post a screen shot here. Using an unsecured network is a major security issue in itself. It most likely keeps coming back cause the Wifi you cannot too has a roller code. Check to see the how many times your IP address changes.
Thanks, but I do not wish to debate or discuss the issues of this connection. The situation dictates this is the connection I have available at this time. I am interested in disabling this intrusive inspection of the connection which disconnect this connector or in the alternative I remove avast.
No in reviewing the IP log, there is no change to the IP when this warning and disconnection occurs.
I just want to disable this inspection totally and completely. I would prefer not to remove avast, but at this point this appears to be the only solution.
I’ve had this happen to me with the last popup about being on an unsecure WiFi channel.
(I’ve also reported this thread to the Mods and hope they will look into the matter)
Precisely. Checking the box stopped the notice till I checked into the next hotel.
As long as you check the box, you’ll only receive one initial notification.
I have Avast Free, and it is interfering w/ my ability to navigate. >:(
Have a County Govt Site that I visit fairly frequently - using my wireless modem will not allow me to go into it. One of the few rare locations I can’t visit, although seems to me I was prevented from accessing another site last night as well.
Coincidentally, I still have access to another internet provider, which I have hardwired. Tried access using the old provider, and “poof”, I can get on the County site. Go back on wireless connection, and I get the Avast pop-up message about needing to secure my computer.
I do not need to secure this! I am out in the boonies, 1/2 mile from the nearest neighbor. Let go of my arm!!
I have a feeling that merely removing the pop-up message won’t keep it from preventing me to go forward again…
Calling Avast’s 800 number, Ms Unintelligible gave me an immediate answer to merely uninstall Avast, reinstall, and everything will be magickly fixed. Have a feeling that is the default response to any problem.
I did not get that screen. I got one that tells me how to secure my network. I have no interest in doing that, and frankly, could care less about the pop-ups. What I do care about is their controlling where I navigate to, and requiring me to secure my network. It’s a home system that is in the middle of nowhere, I monitor its usage, and no one else is getting to me…except Avast.
And the dangerous site, is a County Real Property site. Where’s the danger…? And why could I visit it when not using my own wireless network?
I have the PAID version of Avast. v8.0.1489 and I have this exact same problem.
I paid for Avast partly to avoid annoying advertisements and now I get this. It pops up for EVERY wi-fi network, EVERY time I log on. Clicking the little box does nothing except make it go away for that one session.
I am not EVER going to buy this wi-fi advisor product and I would like the advert to go away, more so since I already PAID for your product!!
This is annoying enough to qualify as SPAM or as a bug or both.
My Avast license is coming up for renewal. If I’m going to get annoying advertisements whether I pay or not, then I guess I’ll just hold onto my money.
My next time 'round got the screen bob3160 pointed out. Clicked on the button below. Yes, this seems to stop the pop-up. But that’s not my issue. It is still stopping me from gaining access to that County Real Property web site, and other occasional ones as well. I even reported this to the IT fellow at the County, especially as it was suggested Avast tried to protect us from dangerous sites - what could be dangerous about this small County’s site? Nothing the IT fellow is aware of, but he appreciated knowing the origin of the problem.
I frankly see it as a way Avast is saying the sky is falling, so have to buy a paid version to protect me during these horrible non-secured internet browsing expeditions - which, in my case are daily as well, considering my home wireless wifi is not protected, and have no reason to make it so…
Others have recommended any other free antivirus sites. Been using Avast a long time, but if it’s going to give me issues, and their response is a carte blanche resolution of uninstalling, and then reinstalling - when the rep couldn’t even repeat what I said my issue was, guess it’s time to move on…
@peg645,
Forget the 800 number. It’s third party support and not something any of us would recommend.
Please list the URL for the site that’s giving you a problem but list it as hxxp instead of http so if it turns out to be
a site that actually contains malicious code, that simply clicking on your listing will not get someone infected. (Someone not using avast!)
Again, this is a public, governmental site - used for real property look ups. The link is hxxp://imo.otsegocounty.com/index.aspx, but what the issue is, is after clicking “for public access”, nothing happens using my unsecured wireless modem connected to Wild Blue. If using my hard wired Hughesnet modem, I have no problem. But I’m dropping Hughesnet, and am certain it’s not the provider, but the modem. Obvious to me there is Avast interference as, prior to my checking on the box not to show the pop-up, it was Avast that would jump in and warn me as I tried to access the Public page via the wireless modem - that I had a wireless modem, not that there was an issue with the page.
I get simply a blank, white page. And my modem is an excellent Linksys wireless modem.
Again, there have been a few other random pages I have not been able to access lately as well. But perhaps less than 1%. Not sure why this page spurs Avast interest.
I’ll prefer to change to other anti-virus programs than be told to do myriad settings changes merely to appease avast. But thanks for your interest.
