The following message has been displayed by Outlook 2007:
“The Add-in “avast! 4” (c:\Program Files.…\ashOutXt.dll) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook.”

Check out this Topic it is about a pre-release build that is meant to address this problem, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=36639.0. Read it all as by all accounts there is a side effect related to the beta build, before you consider if you should try it.
