Disconnecting from wireless network when waking from inactivity

Hi there,

I noticed something happening quite regularly with my notebook.

I am running Windows XP SP3.

I currently have my power options set up as follows:

Turn off monitor: After 15 minutes (plugged in) ; After 5 minutes (on batteries)

Turn off hard disk: After 30 minutes(plugged in) ; After 5 minutes (on batteries)

System standby: Never ; Never

I do not have Hibernate enabled.

My issue is as follows:

When using my computer I do not have any problems with my connecting to my wireless network.

It is only when I leave my notebook for a long enough time for monitor and hard disk to turn off (as noted above in the power options) that I find that - when I come back to my notebook and wake it up - I end up getting disconnected from my wireless network.

I already have the “Load Avast services only after loading other system services” box ticked due to issues with connecting to the wireless network at boot up. That’s solved that problem.

Note: I have not changed the heuristics settings on any of the shields from the their default.

Maybe having the hard disc turn off could be the problem, hard disc is set to never turn off on my system.

You may need to check the device (driver) specific properties.

For example, my network drivers were configured, after installed and by default, with some power saving settings (and other related ones). I have to disable those power saving settings (in the driver’s properties) to avoid being disconnected under specific circumstances.

Of course, you may have to balance the power consumption / savings against the need to maintain the connection active and open.
