Do I have a virus stopping me from scanning?

My laptop has been running a little dodgily(?) lately, so I decided to run a virus scan. In normal mode the scan stops at 25.1gb, no matter how long I leave it (up to 12 hours), I ran the scan in safe mode and it ran perfectly well but brought up no infected files.

Any suggestions?
