Do you use your avast! web shield as ad-blocker in IE too?!

Hi Alan Baxter,

Good report, yes ABP is so versatile, and you can subscribe to language or geo-specific subscription lists - a good one is Rick752’s Easy Element & Easy Privacy List and dozens others and they are regularly automatically updated, the extension is highly tweakable, and when I am browsing with another browser I frighten at what I am normally not watching (banner and ad-wise, and forms, and questionnaires etc., etc.

The RequestPolicy is another one that makes it easy to just show what part of a website you want in your browser, and leave out what you do not want, and things that should not be there any longer I nuke with the YARIP add-on , just a click and gone forever…

Most users of the Fx browser haven’t even seen what it is capable of,

greets,

polonus aka luntrus

i use ie and pop ups block of google toolbar

-= Yup…! IE8 RC1 is really great… But like before, I have this “fear” that the final version will not be as fast and might be heavier to resources than the RC1…

@chronoboi001: yes, it’s normal if you think like that, but it’s not my idea, it seems Microsoft have found the “Heavy” applications would not be user friendly, you can see the what Microsoft is doing in Winodows 7 and other new programs too… hope it be lighter in final version!!!

Sure they can.

Jee I’m having fun learning Vista.

Now where did I put that thing anyway?

I do not use IE7Pro any more as it does not support IE8 very well and it looks like it is a dead application.

What I find is very effective at blocking ads and known malware sites is the use of a HOSTS file managed by HostsMan and its browser speedup proxy Hosts Server:
http://www.abelhadigital.com

I use hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS files only as they are adequate for my needs.

I am likeing Vista a lot better now that I’m getting used to it but I wish I could sell my old XP Home system as that would give me a bit of additional money to play with.

Thanks for the link, I was looking for it!

I still think that Firefox is so much better than Shiternet Explorer.

But to each their own.

Your entitled to your opinion but calling Internet Explorer Shiternet Explorer doesn’t make the product any worse or better.
Hope it’s made you feel better…

There is always one idiot on every forum:

Hi Bob3160,

I apologise if I’ve offended you. I just get so frustrated sometimes with that program’s shortcomings!!

Again sincere apologies if I was out of order.

Regards,

Avastfan1

Your not out of order however, there aren’t very many shortcomings that I know of.
IE8 does a fairly good job of keeping you safe. I feel just as safe using it as I do when I use Firefox.
Most of the time, I use SRWare Iron.
Users Choice.

Hi Alan Baxter,

You know that banners can be dangerous, and you like to block certain ads, using AdBlockPlus in FF or Flock, you like to have the EasyList for ABP. Go here: http://easylist.adblockplus.org/
Together with other measurements like floppymoose, blocklists etc. you avoid a lot of places where you do not want to go in the first place,

bob3160@ SRWare’s Iron has its own adblock.ini, you find it on their site and can implement it easily inside Iron, download it here: http://www.srware.net/downloads/adblock.ini

Thanks Damien,
it’s something i did quite a while back when it was first mentioned on this forum.

ROFLMAO. You crack me up with your irony, polonus.

Check this out:

IE8: Ad blocking with the InPrivate Filter

-= huh… What’s “ROFLMAO”…?

-= I keep seeing that in youtube too…

-= aw… sorry for my ignorance… ???

it’s newer generation of “LOL” and here is description:
ROFLMAO or ROTFLMAO is Internet slang for Rolling On the Floor Laughing My A** Off ;D ;D ;D

you can keep your smile up-to-date to act like that ;D

I tried a lot of blockers, but I dare to say none of them compare to AdMuncher. it runs with any browser, is small, daily updates, no impact on browsing. although I use Opera and don’t see much pop-ups, since I use AdMuncher I forgot what an ad or a pop-up/pop-under is. I highly recommend it.

-= Thanks… I guess, I’m starting to cope up with the ever changing next-gen…
