I’m trying to locate where the virus vault or chest is?
Also where could I see the logs of the last scan?

The log files are in the log files folder.
Where it is depends on what OS you are using.

Yes it is possibly the easiest to find, right click the avast tray icon and select Virus Chest.
open the AvastUI > Settings (cog icon) > Scan > Scan for viruses - down at the bottom of the screen ‘Scan History.’
And as you see the “Virus Chest” is to the left of the “Scan History” (in the “Scan for Viruses” window).
Which as I said can be accessed directly from the tray icon.
Yep, I noticed but then this would apply to Avast2016 presumably as this does not appear to be the case for my Avast2015. I just thought I’d mention this since the OP had not mentioned the Avast version.

Earlier versions of avast 2015 would have the 4 shortcut tiles on the main UI page - one of which could be set to the Virus Chest.

Yep, and that’s how I’ve got mine setup (and is perhaps the default), but then that setup can be changed by the user to include other shortcuts that might not include the Virus Chest. The only set way that I’m aware of that can’t be changed (hard coded) would be in the Scan History window (at least as far as I’m aware that is).

Not entirely true, for those that have the latest version (not hanging on to the old avast version) it is hard coded into the tray icon context menu.

That’s good to know regarding the latest version of course, my only point was that not knowing which version the OP is using (which is the case here) the only location I’m aware of that would be true in either case (2015 or 2016) would be the location I’ve mentioned, that being the Scan History window. Which is why I’ve referenced that location in as much as it would apply either way if I’m not mistaken.
