Does Avast AV require Windows proxy setting AUTO or ON?

Windows 10 Home 20H2 (19042.804)

I don’t run a manual proxy / VPN of any kind, and don’t use this machine to log into any networks – just regular everyday wired ethernet surfing, streaming, mail, etc. I have a third-party firewall (Comodo) and Avast Free installed and want them to do their thing to the best of their abilities. So the question, which I’ve seen references to in many threads but never answered in a short and sweet way, is this:

Does any Avast AV functionality REQUIRE Windows 10 proxy auto-detect set to ON?
a/k/a
If I set Windows proxy auto-detect to OFF will Avast work correctly in all AV aspects?

Feel free to explain it to me like I’m a 3-year-old.

I have always set proxy setting OFF and Avast has always worked fine.

I’ve noticed things tend to run more smoothly when using default settings. Nothing’s wrong with tweaking a few settings on the Avast UI. However I wouldn’t change anything when it comes to connectivity, unless you have a specific need or issue.
