Does Avast interupt Windows 7 Sleep Mode

Windows 7 Sleep Mode stopped working immediately after upgrading from AVAST 4 to AVAST INTERNET SECURITY suite. Using the older AVAST 4, Windows 7 ‘Sleep Mode’ worked well.

I’m wondering if anybody else is experiencing this situation

AVAST Tech Support in April suggested my problem would be noted however not worked unless enough complaints were made… Since then, I’ve been Shutting my Computer Down rather than using the Sleep Mode. Am now about to switch to another AV solution.

Are you sure you’re referring to version 4 and not to version 7 (the actual one)?

I’ve been having the same issue with Avast 7 free edition. I just found out about this moments ago and have since disabled ‘streaming updates’ as I believe that was the exact feature preventing my sleep timer, which is normally set to 2 hours. However, I’ve yet to test this theory out, so i’ll come back here to post tomorrow once I verify that was actually the issue occuring.

My ‘normal’ definition updates are set to a 5 hour interval. This has been going on for months where my CPU would sleep sometimes, but, not others. I finally figured it out because I occasionally turn off Avast completely using a batch file I wrote. The only times my computer would properly suspend was when after finishing a game I just went to bed instead of re-enabling avast.

Oddly enough it took me a few months to figure it out though. Hope this helps someone and hopefully just disabling streaming updates and/or reputation services is enough to make it work properly.

I can confirm that Sleep is interuppted by streaming updates.

I rarely use sleep in Win7 but having seen this thread I put my machine in sleep mode , within 15 minutes it restarted without my intervention. Put the machine back in sleep mode an hour later, went off for a shower and when I came back the machine was running again, last streaming update received 8 minutes prior to me returning to the desk.

Well, I cannot say for sure, but I really doubt the streaming updates have the power to wake up the computer from sleeping…
Hope some of the programmers could confirm this.

I wondered about this Tech, but the only thing that I can see has run is the update, the time is clearly recorded. Every single time I put the machine into sleep and leave the desk, it has restarted and an update is recorded. I know I don’t use sleep mode much but this has never happened with previous versions of avast …

Sure… If the computer is on, avast! check for streaming updates.
Other point is: which program/driver/service is waking up the computer and then avast! can check the streaming updates?

It must be something from avast as it doesn’t happen with other AV’s, I have a partition with Auslogics 2011 AV and Win7 64Bit, put that in sleep mode and it stays there till I wake it.

For what it’s worth…mine goes to sleep and stays asleep.
