Does Avast Software Updater include BETA versions

Does Avast Software Updater include BETA versions when showing a program is out of date?
Avast warned me 7-Zip is out of date.
I have 7-Zip version 9.20
Avast shows version 9.22.0.0 is available.
Everywhere I’ve looked shows 9.22 is a BETA version, including http://7-zip.org/
If Avast includes BETA versions in suggested updates, I think it should clearly show it is a BETA version.

Win 7 x64 fully updated, Avast! free 2014.9.0.2018

No, it shouldn’t be recommending upgrades to a beta release, at least not as far as I am aware. I just filed a bug report on it here: https://feedback.avast.com/responses/software-updater-bug-for-7-zip

Maybe Avast knows something we don’t. ;D ;D
I went ahead with update in any case.

Thank you for reporting it as a bug report.
I clicked on “Same problem” in your bug report, so hopefully that gets registered …

@schmidthouse
Hopefully Avast knows a LOT I don’t…I’m no security expert.
Sometimes I do test BETA versions of programs, but that is by MY choice knowing it is a BETA version, and I have made backups before installing a BETA version …

Well… avast! Free 2014.9.0.2018 just updated my 7-zip 9.20 to 9.22 BETA, which I find pretty annoying, because it did so without asking me (I now have changed the settings to not automatically update in the background). >:(

In CCleaner’s list of installed software I found entries for 7-zip 9.20 and 9.22. I uninstalled both versions of 7-zip and did a reinstall of the latest stable version, which is 9.20 of course. I do not want any BETA versions of software on my PC (Windows 8, 64 bit)! There must be some reason for calling 9.22 BETA. Uninstalling 9.22 caused a short crackling sound in my speakers and also a flickering on my monitor, so who knows what that BETA came with.

With all due respect to Mr. Salomon from the avast! Team, I find his explanation in the bug report (https://feedback.avast.com/responses/software-updater-bug-for-7-zip) not satisfactory. Software being in BETA status for 3 years and being offered on a lot of portals does not make it stable. I mean, what does it say, when the update leads to two installed versions and possibly causes driver problems…!?

I am sure that 99,9% of avast! users (regardless of what avast! version they use, Free, Pro, IS, Premier) do not want BETA but stable software on their computers. I consider offering BETA versions via Software Updater a step in the wrong direction.

In addition to changing the settings for Software Updater to not automatically update in the background I have now set it to ignore 7-zip. I prefer to manually update once a new STABLE version is available.
