A few days ago I upgraded from Avast! 8 to 9 (2014 edition) and I have just noticed that my Windows Update settings are now set to “Install updates automatically (recommended)”.
I previously had Windows Updates set to “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them”, and prior to upgrading Avast! I “manually” installed some Windows Updates.
However, I have since installed Windows Movie Maker (part of the free Windows Live Essentials) so I can’t be sure exactly when this change occurred.
Does Avast! make this change (without notification)?!
I installed AIS2014 on a machine last night and the settings were changed, and having checked another machine I installed on a few days ago, I see the same thing there.
Thanks for your quick reply. Curious that I have not found other posts about this? The machine I mentioned above has Windows 7. However, I also upgraded a Windows XP machine at the same time and the Windows Update settings on this machine were unaffected!?
No, it hasn’t done it here on Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled 2014 (using Avast and RejZor’s cleanup tools) a number of times for various reasons.
I too have windows update set to “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them”.
