A friend of mine and I were talking about MySpace. She still has 2 accounts there although she says they’re basically dormant now. She swears though that she can still access them. I told her I was curious to see them. She gave me the links to both of her pages. Well, I cannot access them to save my life. Heck, I cannot even access the straight up myspace.com. Within 3 to 5 seconds, the loading stops and is DUN without anything displaying. I’ve tried it with Opera, AOL and Firefox. Neither of them will remotely bring up anything remotely associated with myspace.
Is there some certain different way that one is supposed to be able to bring up myspace?
Is my avast possibly blocking anything myspace related?
What gets me is that TWICE I asked my friend, “Are you SURE you can still access your pages and myspace in general? Cuz I can’t get it to work.” And she swore, “Yes. Here. Try it again.” She’d give me the links again. And of course I’d get the same results. I don’t know. Maybe she was just assuming that it still worked from her memory of the last time she was there … but, didn’t actually try it right then and there.
Nope. Neither that myspace link nor Bob’s myspace comes up for me.
So there’s bound to be something wrong at myspace that makes it to where it doesn’t work for a lot of people depending on their computer setup.
I have no blocking programs of any kind, Bob.
All I have is avast.
There is one possible factor that might be affecting this.
Since 2 days ago, now right after boot up is done and I’m at the desktop, I get some AOL message informing that some “Host” something or other cannot be loaded because some AOL dll or something is missing.
I just click on OK to close the window and then everything works fine.
However, IF that AOL Host something or other not being loaded were to have something to do with anything myspace being forbidden to load … why do all of my other websites load fine? Does myspace do something differently than just about all other websites?
Still, the fact that that Down For Everyone Or Just Me website is flagging myspace.com as being down has to mean there IS some sort of problem on myspace’s end even if it’s not affecting everyone’s ability to access it.
The site apparently only accepts http sites not https. The site can therefore not be used to get a correct answer.
The problem is most likely at your end.
Oh okay. Then no problem. It was just a curiosity thing. If I can never access it won’t be any loss or a problem. I don’t have an account there and I don’t follow anyone there.
Myspace.com is definitly still up. It could be that you are having a DNS issue.
Try typing this in your browser:
216.178.46.224
Thats the sites IP and will take you there and bypass any DNS issues. If that works when it may be working looking at your DNS settings, maybe pointing at 8.8.8.8 (googles free dns server) or maybe somthing as simple as doing an IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS from command prompt
No, Para-Noid, I don’t have any blocking software.
As I mentioned in an earlier comment, it’s possible that the problem might be related to that sudden AOL message that I’ve been getting after bootup is finished of something along the lines that the AOL Host Manager was not loaded because some dll could not be found.
It’s no biggie. I’ll just let it go.
As long as the websites that I actually use still work, and they do, then I’m okay.
