Like in title. When I’m typing something in my word processor, and the Network Shield’s alert popup window pops, it gets immediately closed, so fast that I can’t read it’s message. Is this cause by a fast typing on keyboard (I got 350 keys per minute) - that is is this window set to close itself when user hits any key? If so, I would suggest giving it an option in Settings so user could disable reaction on key hit.
Is there a way to setup time how long this alert window is on screen? Sometimes it is difficult to read this message (stays on to short) if it pops, when user does something else. If not - I would also suggest giving an option in Settings to set time peroid, after which, this window is auto-closed.
Sorry for problems, I made. I thought that WISHLIST is a special thread where this kind of things should be reported, no matter if they were or were not reported anywhere else. Sorry!
Technical. I’ve tried to answer in this thread to not to longer discussion in the WISHLIST thread.
I don’t see ANY settings about time of Network Shield’s message box apperance on screen or reaction on keyboard hit, in [Simple] or [AAVM], you mention.
If you said so, there probably are there somewhere in the lots of colors and other settings. But we are riding here in a very different kind of talk. Is this good idea to put so little (in comparation to ini file) settings into Settings window of avast! and so much settings into ini file? I started this thread and talked about window’s reaction on key’s hit and time of existance to talk about this settings in Settings window, NOT ini!
There are alot of avast!'s users who can try to configure it within Settings window, while they don’t even know that avast! stores it’s settings in ini file, and where is it.
So, beside of your - really good piece of work, which is your ini explanation - we are riding here in some kind of ethical disscusion, if we should let new users dig into ini, while it would be better to let them change most important values in Settings and keep them AWAY of the ini file. And I thing that settings about this Network Shield’s message pop are enough important to get them into Settings - especially looking how many post aroung “DCOM Exploit - what is this” were in this forum.
Concering your next post (that was posted during this kind of long answer - yes, you are wrong. I am using firewall (ZoneAlarm Free) and I do need this Network Shield’s allerter, because I can use it for quick reporting my network’s administrator which IP dared ( ) to attack my computer!
I agree with you… But, more options, more GUI, more work, more translation work… I think Alwil keep only the most important and necessary settings for avast to work into the settings. Others (appearance, etc.) are left for the advanced users in ini file…
Why don’t you receive the alert by ZoneAlarm? (I’m not sure it is possible…).
Ehm… what? Wasn’t you, who explained me in other thread that message is displayed only once! Whichever program find leak / attack / intrusion - stops it, displays proper message and this is why other program doesn’t display any message. Because it don’t even receive info about attack, which was stoped by first program. In my situation avast! founds DCOM Exploit intrusion and stops it. ZoneAlarm Free does not shows anything, because anything happens - attack was stoped by avast! Isn’t it the way it should be? ;D
