First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member and I don’t use Avast One.

So I took your question and googled it;
Does the new version of Avast One include a VPN

This one should help you.

and:

That said it isn’t very clear.

Thank you for having a go at this, it is much appreciated. I had found those pages before posting, and they (as you say) aren’t very clear. The only VPN mentioned is the paid-for version (which they call their SecureLine VPN) that is not the same as the free one of 5GB/month that came with the old version. The section in the second link you have suggested about the difference between the old and new Avast does not mention the VPN at all.

So if anyone else knows any more, I’d be grateful if you could let me know. Although I am beginning to suspect that they have dropped the VPN from the new version to steer you towards their paid service…

In the other Avast Antivirus Product line they don’t have a VPN, even Avast Antivirus Premium.

So, it would look like the same will be true for the Avast One Free and possibly the other Avast One Product range.

Unfortunately as an Avast User I can’t confirm that.

I had exactly the same problem you mentioned. Following the on line support (AI) I uninstalled it and installed again with the same result. Looks like Avast is advertising one thing and supplying another. Shame on you, Avast.

It is no longer advertising the VPN as part of Avast One. If you look on the Avast site links I gave, it is no longer free on even the Avast Premium product.
This took effect from the 16th of September 2025 the Avast SecureLine VPN is now a paid product that you can add, but requires an Avast SecureLine VPN subscription.

Thank you David, I can see that now. I don’t think it was easy to access that information at the time, I expect a lot of people who decided to update the app have been disappointed by the change, but I suppose it probably costs Avast something to provide that service. Thanks again.

You’re welcome.

To develop the VPN service it requires more servers to handle the countries and load, so yes, cost would be a factor.
