downforeveryoneorjustme?

Do you want to know if a site is down or if it is just not accessible to you (a problem of your server or with your Internet Connection)?

Go there:

Very good tool… does it work with reliability?

Very good tool... does it work with reliability?

I do not know, Tech; cause i did not check it, but it comes from a reliable source (a french specialist in Internet, with a blog hosted by Le Monde french newspaper).

But i suppose it´s a reliable tool , cause it´s an easy idea: check from a different place/ server if a site is down or not.

Of course, it could happen than you (or me), and

http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

cannot connect to a site and yet, everybody else can.

maybe a third random checking would be necessary.

Edited: i had used the word aleatory for random, which is probably incorrect in English English and in Usanian English as well; because the word is: aleatorio in spanish and aléatoire in french.

For instance i cannot connect right know to
www.lemonde.fr
though downforeveryoneorjustme tells me that it can. Still, this does not tell me where is the problem for me.

Edited:

This is what i get:

It’s just you. lemonde.fr is up.

Check another site?

Hope Polonus could drop a word here…

No problem here connecting FF3.0.

I didn’t have a prob with that site either, I have FF 2.0.0.12 on this particular machine / win xp home, sp2. It was just like changing channels on a tv for me ;D

You prob all already know of this one: http://extensionholic.com/speedtest.html It will also tell you if your connection is ok, or just a prob with a particular site.

Accually, I just usually try a different site, then if I have probs with a couple, I open the above ^^^ add on.

i can’t install it cause it say’s it does not provide secure updates

no problem here either except i can't speak French :)

It could be a problem with a DNS server, recently there was a problem where lots of people couldn’t connect to mozilla.org and that was a DNS server problem.

You could try the http://opendns.org/ servers, which is what I use for my DNS and that even with the mozilla problems, those in the effected countries were able to connect using the OpenDNS servers. It also provides some other useful benefits, check it out.

davidr my friend-i’ve been using opendns for a while now-at least a year or so-great program

That advice was for sopadeajo in the hope it might resolve his problem.

This is where i found the link, you´ll see it.

I can know connect to Le Monde, but still do not know why i couln´t since i connected to other sites with apparently no problem.

Well, at various times sites / servers are down for maintence… You might have just tried to visit there during such a time…

Hi Tech,

There could be more stones to kill a bird, but this could be just one of them. Regionalization of Google results can be a problem, trying a list of known Google URLs and search trough them can bring a solution, link farms could have just snapped a domain just on the moment it had to be renewed, I also use the old nestat and ping the address or look it up with robtex http://www.robtex.com/ ,and never had any trouble with Netcraft’s also. Or try this http://www.siteuptime.com/users/quickcheck.php
Quick check for: google.com (http)
Date City Country Time (s) Result
July 7, 2008 12:44:29 San Francisco United States 0.171 Ok

Average Response Time: 0.171 seconds

Well these resuls are being viewed from Poland, because Polonus is on holidays, friends,

Damian,

Thanks Polonus… Indeed what does the site really do? Ping the server? If I don’t have an internet connection, how could I check anything and say it’s not just me… maybe it just reports a browser problem: you can ping the server but you can’t render the page…
