I don’t think there is any malware that could affect Win9x systems anymore. But if you have Win2k or WinXP, you can use avast! 6 on it and which is highly recommended.

The OS is not the ONLY condition. Generally speaking, the RAM resources and CPU could also be a limit (although, I’m not sure if any old system that could run v4.8 would be in trouble to run v6.0 or it could run it too).
If 4.8 runs, also 6.x should run, as it’s even lighter.
