hello
i m using avast 5.0 free software. i want to download latest virus defination and latest program manually. not to download automatically. i want to download separate file. is it possible?
Yes it is but it is a very large file for the complete VPS (31MB) compared to the incremental updates of the auto update.
avast! VPS Update - Manual Download ensure you select the correct one for avast 5.0.
i downloaded full avast software on april 4th 2010.
y that files of latest definition of virus is big of 31mb?
how can i get the virus definition after 4 th april 2010 which came to exist.? i think i downloaded avast full software on 4th april so all virus definiton should be inside it so why to download all virus definition.
Why, because it is the complete database and not just the incremental update between when you last updated it. You asked how to download a separate file and what I told you is how.
Use the manual update within the avastUI, Maintenance, Updates.
i want to give avast software to my friend. i downloaded that software on 4th april 2010.
my friend pc have some virus so how can i give him my software with latest definition? how can my freind update virus definition which came after 4th april 2010
You can’t unless you either download the latest avast version, 5.0.545 which will have the latest virus signatures up to the time of download. Or download the complete VPS as I mentioned before and give him both the version you downloaded in april plus the complete VPS.
That however, isn’t the best solution as when installing a version that is almost three months old (there has been a couple of program build update in that time I believe) and VPS would be well out of date.
The crucial time to have the program and virus signatures up to date is on installation when try to install on an infected system, or there is a possibility that the malware on the system might a) not be detected or b) it could be attacking avast when installing it.
So the best solution all round is to download the latest avast version and give him that, http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe - Avast! Free antivirus Quick Start Guide http://files.avast.com/files/documentation/quick-start-guide-free-en-ww.pdf
ok thank you very much. i will download vps and will give both to him.
Honestly you would be better just downloading the latest avast version 5.0.545 as that will have a pretty recent full version of the VPS included in the installation file.
