I downloaded a key generator file from the following url hxxp://load.keygendb.net/crack/download.php?p=bmFtZT1Ub20rQ2xhbmN5JTI3cytSYWluYm93K1NpeCtMb2NrZG93bislNUJ4JnR5cGU9a2V5K2NvZGUrZ2VuZXJhdG9yJmlkPWJlZTJlZmVhYjMmY291bnRyeT0w&h=0fc60e7dc206998049550e587dabde68
After extracting and running the key generator, it immediately went to blue screen. Trying to reboot just resulted in a blinking - in the top left corner (after the BIOS ran)
I booted from XP disk and ran recovery console and used “FIXMBR” (fix master boot record) and it seems to have fixed my boot-up issue and everything seems fine.
I guess I just wanted to provide the URL to see if any tech support people want to take a look at the file.
So, you want help because you ran a file, that you wanted to use to circumvent licensing and it resulted in you not being able to boot your pc?
Just to be clear?
So was this after you disabled the network shield then?
So hopefully you have learned a valuable lesson about keygens/cracks, etc. aside from the obvious legal/moral stand point which can’t be condoned on the official avast support forums.
Such stuff is high risk and frequently comes with uninvited guests, after all who are you going to report it to, the police, I think not.
If you can’t afford the software, then find a freeware version, which should suit your needs and don’t rip off the developers.
I bought the game, I paid $50 when it was brand new. I lost the key. Was looking for a way to play it without having to purchase it again.
I wasn’t looking for help as it appears that I have fixed the problem.
I wanted to provide the file to Avast so they could take a look at it. Yes, I did disable the security because it identified the web site as possible bad site and I couldn’t download the file. I scanned the file after it was downloaded but it was not recognized as suspect by avast. Maybe they will find a new strain of virus because I called attention to it. Maybe not. But at least I brought it up.
I wanted to let anyone else who had the same problem (no boot with flashing “-”) know what I did to fix it (FIXMBR). As you all are well aware, the file name could easily be changed to something else and more people might download it thinking it is a safe file.
I guess I could have just kept my experience to myself, but I’m sure there is someone out there who might search “no boot flashing -” and maybe… just maybe… my post would be helpful.
Tech, yes I was using Avast and it is updated. I reported it to virus(at)avast.com also.
