driving me crazy : keep asking what to do

Hello,

I have just installed avast! and I have a few viruses and trojan : so it was a good idea ! Anyway, it keeps finding stuff and asking me all the time what to do with them : I can’t even work ! The cure becomes worst than the disease… would there be a way to, for example, set an answer by default like : put everything in the vault, I’ll come back to that later"?

Thanks a lot !

Marc

What version of Avast do you have?

Hi,

I have 4.6 home edition.

What i think he meant was what version such as 4.6.691. To see what version you have just right click on the a icon down in the task bar and click about avast. Then click on the + sign by avast! version 4.6 home edition.

Yes, this is possible in Professional version of avast! 4.
You can buy it on our e-store on share*it or from your local avast! reseller.

If you got virus…

  1. Deactivate you system restore
  2. Do full system scan or schedule scan boot, next time you powerup computer it will do complete scan of it.

Efter that you removed all viruses, right click on avast icon in tray,
Click on the first marked tittle in menu to start configuration of realtime protection
, click on detail to expand advaced settings.

Here you configure each module as you wish

most inportand that can be marked is

“silent”
"No "

So it will not ask, will just remove intems

//ehh, am i wrong somewhere?

No, only in Professional version like Chocholo said (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).

In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).

Or you can use Silent Mode:

Left click the ‘a’ blue icon.
It will start On-access protection

Click on Internet Mail and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the default answer No. This will send the file (email) to Chest.

Do the same for the and Outlook/Exchange plugin.
The answer Yes in Silent Mode keeps the virus in the file or into the message (attach) and continue the scanning. You can’t configure ‘delete the infected file’ in the Home version.

You can do the same for Standard Shield provider, but it won’t be a good idea…

Silent mode in the case of the WebShield provider simply means that avast will keep pressing the “Abort connection” button for hte user automatically.

““You can do the same for Standard Shield provider, but it won’t be a good idea…””

Why not? As I undartand this will remove file without asking, if file was infected.
Is that somthing not good with that?

Hi Marc,

I think you should be asking yourself why you get these messages.

Have you got a firewall? Is you OS up to date?

Download Ewido Security Suite and a free firewall if you don’t have one. Install and update Ewido. Go off-line and run a boot time scan with avast! and a scan with Ewido. Install the firewall or a least check that XP’s firewall is on.

Visit several online scan sites to check you are clean. (Panda and F-Secure will remove malware, Kaspersky will find just about anything but won’t remove it. You’ll need to temporarily disable avast! before running Panda, or you’ll get false alarms.)

If you come up clean, visit the MS update site and download and install all the critical updates.

If there is still malware present, you can post a HijackThis! log.

Oki…

ftp://ftp.kaspersky.com/utils/getsysteminfo

Kaspersky have also one utility that can collect information for analyses
This will just collect info in some file that you can post here //I think/hope so

You can just attach created file to you post

OK guies,

Thank you so much !!! I am going to try all this, little by little !

Marc

ok good i hope all of this helps you. Welcome to the forums.
