Dual Definitions Update?

Okay, this morning, my avast 4.8.1368 started its usual morning Virus Database Update routine.
The Update Icon was displaying down in the System Tray as usual.
Suddenly midway through the update, a second Update Icon popped up in the System Tray.
That’s right. Now there were TWO Update Icons in the System Tray. :o What the heck?

Eventually, I got the Blue Box indication that my avast’s Virus Database had been updated.
And one of the 2 Update Icons, presumably the original one, disappeared.

But, now as I type this, the 2nd Update Icon is STILL displaying in the System Tray.

WHY did it pop up in there to begin with?
Is it actually doing something?
Is avast actually still downloading something? If so, WHAT?

My Virus Definitions version is currently: 100722-0
So, as far as I know, my avast is up to date.

What’s going on? That 2nd Update Icon doesn’t want to go away.
How do I get rid of it?

Is it by any chance downloading avast 5.0?
Has support for 4.8 finally ended and it’s trying to update my avast to 5.0?

If that’s what it’s trying to do, I can’t be downloading something that big via my Dial Up.
That will slow down my connection for hours upon hours … IF it even stays connected.
Something that big, I have to download at my friends’ High Speed Internet.

Hah! Okay … Never mind.
The problem is fixed. I was messing around down in the System Tray. I was going to do something else and just by chance happened to pass my Cursor over that avast Update Icon and it disappeared.

Whew! I was afraid it was perpetually downloading who knows what. ;D

Crisis Alert CANCELED.

the second blue screen was most likely a notification to upgrade to avast 5 sens it was manged in this thread that the support of avast 4.8 will be ended in September.

meaby you should update then to avast 5 ;D

Oh, it wasn’t a 2nd Blue Box that appeared. It was a 2nd one of those tiny Icons … with the simulated Red & Green Arrows rotating … that pop up down in the bottom right System Tray to indicate that a Virus Database Update is in progress.

For some weird reason, a 2nd one of those appeared down there and thus, I had 2 of those Update in Progress Icons down there at the same time. I had never had that happen before.

Since avast 4.8 has been working fine, I just decided to wait until the absolute very end to upgrade to avast 5.0 so that as many Bugs could be fixed before I made the jump. You know … considering that I have Windows XP SP3 in my computer and all along, that setup has been the one most likely to experience BSODs and other hiccups that the other OS versions don’t seem to experience as much.

That sticky-icon thing is something I’ve gotten used to over the years, and in particular the way you cleared it. Some apps seem to need help clearing their icons when they close, and more often than not a mouse-over mysteriously does the trick.
