dwwin shutdown error

I used to get the occasional Avast! shutdown error (The instruction at 0x7c910e03 referenced at memory 0x00000000 could not be read. Click ok to terminate the program). I haven’t seen that for a while, but…

Now I get an occasional “dwwin failed to start becasue the system is shutting down” error. Could it be avast related?

I have WinXp, SP2, no Gravis products (some help sites relate it to Gravis drivers), and the only recent hardware change was adding a Canon printer, but that was about a month before the problem began, so it does not seem related.

Anyway, with Avast’s history of the shutdown problem, I was wondering if htis could be somehow related… And, if not, any input would still be appreciated…

dwwin.exe is a part of the Microsoft Doctor Watson error reporting tool which comes packaged with some Microsoft products.

Right. I am very aware of what it is, as I have searched extensively trying to resolve the problem… It is, as I mentioned, frequently replated to Gravis drivers, but AV products have been the culprit in some cases. With the history of Avast’s shutdown problems, I thought I’d ask…

Again, if anyone can help or offer insight, I’d appreciate it.
