E-Mail Guardian not worth it?

Good day,

I have had Avast Premium Security for many years (when it was called something else) and I have been happy with it which is why I keep renewing. However, the E-Mail Guardian portion is pretty much worthless to me because it not cover popular e-mail addresses in the US like “yahoo.com”, or “aol.com” or “verizon.net” or “spectrum.net”, etc. (for some reason they are okay with “comcast.net”) - why would this be beneficial to me having the majority of “acceptable” e-mail addresses outside the US - Note the majority is for Russia!! For example:

Email Guardian is available for the following email providers:

NOTE:Localized versions of some of the providers are also supported (for example, outlook.com.br, live.jp, etc).
Comcast.net
Gmail.com: googlemail.com
GMX.net: gmx.net, gmx.biz, gmx.org, gmx.info
Mail.ru: inbox.ru, list.ru, bk.ru, corp.mail.ru
Orange.fr
Outlook.com: hotmail.com, live.com, livemail.com, msn.com, windowslive.com
Seznam.cz: email.cz, post.cz, spoluzaci.cz
T-online.de
Web.de
Wp.pl
Yandex.com: yandex.net, ya.ru, narod.ru

I do not understand why I am paying for a feature that DOES NOT WORK. I use Outlook 365 and use my (popular) provider’s e-mail address (not Outlook.com), but that is the way most everyone uses Office 365. To have a feature that is useless should not be promoted as such a benefit, nor should I have to pay for it. The “standard” generic answer of “we are adding new providers every day” is NOT a valid answer. I do not live in Russia so what is the value here?? If Avast Premium Security is so popular, then I do not understand why have and release a feature that does not work (I mean, come on… Yahoo or aol mail has been out for decades now). Like I said - worthless :frowning:

Thank you

You aren’t paying for the Email Guardian as such, as far as I’m aware it is a component of Avast Premium Security and you are paying for that product.

I did a google search to ensure my above comment was correct - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Avast+Email+Guardian - this was the first returned hit https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/email-guardian-faq/

Email Guardian is a premium feature available in the paid version of Avast One and Avast Premium Security. Email Guardian scans your incoming emails when you check them using a web browser. Any malicious or phishing emails are marked with an 'Avast: Suspicious' label.

However, it is also called the Mail Shield in Avast Free Antivirus / Premium Security (legacy Pro Antivirus, Internet Security, Premier). However in the Avast One range of products it is called the Email Guardian. For me the Avast One range of products has more components but less configuration by the user.

The localisation of common .com domains isn’t always available, I think the above list of new localisations.

If you aren’t using your browser to view your email but a local email program like thunderbird (my default) these new localisations don’t effect me. Unfortunately I don’t use Office 365 so I can’t speak from personal experience, so I don’t know how that works.

Why can’t I set up Email Guardian with AOL or Yahoo?
Due to a defect in AOL and Yahoo mailboxes, the option to generate an app-specific password is currently unavailable, which prevents the setup of Email Guardian. After the email providers resolve the issue, you can set up Email Guardian to work with your email account.

This issue applies to the following domains:

AOL.com: aim.com, netscape.net, netscape.com, compuserve.com, cs.com, wmconnect.com, mail.gm0.yahoodns.net
Yahoo.com: rocketmail.com, ymail.com

Thanks for the response, and yes I realize E-Mail Guardian (not Mail Shield) is part of my APS which I pay for, but my point is that if you have “comcast.net” why not “verizon.net”? and I was just surprised that besides the absence of yahoo and aol mail, but the majority of accepted ISP e-mails are for Russia and not US or Canada, so really that component is wortless at this time :frowning:

As an Avast User like yourself, there is nothing can physically do to change that.

That is why I posted a link to the FAQ - as Pondus mentioned, for some sites “the option to generate an app-specific password is currently unavailable” so the connection would fail. I don’t know if that also includes your email provider.
