Since I installed Avast!4.7 Home yesterday my e-mail POP server rejects the connection: invalid password. I use Outlook Express as mailer under Windows XP. Any ideas?
The FAQs says to use the Mail Protection Assistant of Avast to configure it right but this assistant is not present in the software I downloaded and installed.
I use the standard Windows XP firewall. Disabling it doesn’t help.
Following your suggestion I added ashMaiSv.exe to the programs not to be blocked by the firewall but it didn’t help either.
I must confess that maybe I changed something to the OE settings but I can’t remember what since I was working on several modifications to my configuration. I checked and it looks quite “normal”.
The error message I get from OE is (sorry, it’s in French):
Problème de connexion à votre serveur de messagerie. Votre mot de passe a été refusé. Compte : ‘pop.9online.fr’, Serveur : ‘pop.9online.fr’, Protocole : POP3, Réponse du serveur : ‘-ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed’, Port : 110, Sécurisé (SSL) : Non, Erreur de serveur : 0x800CCC90, Numéro d’erreur : 0x800CCC92
You could do a google search for the error numbers.
Whilst the grammar is likely to be poor there are on-line translation services that you might find helpful, http://babelfish.altavista.com/
Problem of connection to your waiter of transport. Your password was refused. Count: ' pop.9online.fr', Waiter: ' pop.9online.fr', Protocol: POP3, Response of the waiter: ' - ERR [ AUTH ] Authentication failed', Port: 110, Protected (SSL): Not, Error of waiter: 0x800CCC90, Number of error: 0x800CCC92
Check that your account settings match your ISP setting information.
In OE is the my server requires authentication ticked (if required by your ISP), see image and ensure the info in the Settings button is completed
