E-mail scan

When I installed Avast 4.8 free, I set it up to NOT scan outgoing mail. I know everything I send is clean and don’t need the scan. Last nite I e-mailed some scanned documents to a relative and notice that the files were being scanned. It seemed to take forever to get the files out.
Is there something I can do to privent outgoing mail from being scanned by Avast. I do know it was Avast that was doing the scanning. Thanks

What is your Email client?
The “internet mail” provider settings are applicable for POP3/SMTP protecols, as used by Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc, not webmail (HTTP) if that is a factor.
