Ever since I installed Avast Home, I’ve had trouble getting all of my mail. Outlook Express will say that I got five messages, but only three or four will show up. Luckily, I don’t have Outlook Express set to delete downloaded messages off of the server, so I went over there, and sure enough, there were some messages I never got that had attachements to them. How the heck do I tell Avast to leave my mail alone??? Baby pictures from my nephew never arrived on my computer, because, as far as I can figure out, Avast considered them viruses. I completely turned off Avast protection, in hopes I can get my mail the way I’m supposed to. Can anyone help me with this problem? I don’t like being unprotected, but I hate not getting all of my mail. If Avast had even asked me or showed me where it put those messages, but I didn’t get anything from it. They just vanished! 8-( I’m an unhappy camper here.
Any and all help would be much appreaciated! And could you please send a copy of your response to my email address? That way I’ll be sure to see it. If Avast will leave it alone, that is.
avast doesn’t touch your email, deletion or otherwise it just scan it and alerts you if a virus or suspicious email is detected. You then need to say what action to take it doesn’t take action automatically unless you have set that up and that function is basically a Pro version option.
Do you have an anti-spam program or filter that might delete them because it isn’t avast. That could be confirmed by looking at the avast Log Viewer where it lists viruses detected, etc. Having disabled avast and that doesn’t have any effect (which it shouldn’t) should confirm it isn’t avast.
I suggest that you remove your email address (in your post) from a publicly available web forum unless you would like it to be harvested by some spambot.
Are you getting the email but not the attachments ?
Check your security settings in OE, Tools, Options, Security, see image.
This is precesely the explanation… when Outlook checks the email it sees 5 but you have already downloaded 2 of them in this same computer, so, it skips them. This is how OE works in an account than does not delete the mails from server: show the total but just download the new ones (not downloaded yet).
Why? You’re using an antivirus, pictures could have virus and exploits, avast is doing its job :
You can always change the antivirus for another but the problem will remais if you receive infected pictures.
Are they clean? Are you sure?
You can’t download through OE an email twice… you have already STARTED to download it once, it’s marked as already downloaded.
The only access, due to OE, is through webmail.
The Home version NEVER does this, neither by default nor if you change the settings.
If you’ve changed the settings (silent mode) to send the email to Chest or you’re using the Professional or Trial version and, again, changed the default settings.
Well, we help on forums, we’re users like you, generally we stay in forums and do not use the email.
The same problem solution could be useful for the others, there are more than one user to help you…
Besides what has been said above, if one of us replies to your email and you are having email problems, how will you know we have answered? It is always best to come back here for an answer.
Please, remove your email address to prevent you from getting more spam than you would like. You can do this by clicking the Modify button at the top right of your post, deleting the address, and then click on Save.
