Will my email still be scanned if I leave my POP and SMTP settings as they are rather than allowing them to change to 127.0.0.1? I have been blocked out of getting and send email and was told by my ISP to back to my original settings.
No, you won’t.
Are you using Windows 98 or Millenium, aren’t you?
So, changing the settings are necessary to get the mail scanned.
With Windows 2000 or XP, email are scanned transparently, i.e., the settings are not changed.
Welcome to avast forums 8)
Also you should ask your ISP if your mail server uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) conenctions.
avast! doesn’t support those connections anyway, so unless you are ready to go through some third party application that will “force” avast! checking your SSL accounts, you can simply disable avast! internet mail module.
Post more details and then we will be able to tell you more. What are those error messages you get when you say avast! is blocking receiving/sending of your e-mails ? Post a screenshot if possible.
Help us to help you, simple as that…
When you say you have been blocked out, what error mesages are you getting to indicate this?
I am using WIN 98SE , my ISP does not use SSL and my problem was that that I could not send or receive any email until I reset my original POP3/SMTP settings I used prior to installing AVAST. My biggest concern is that I have lost the ability to stop any viruses that might be sent by email. Other than the email question I couldn’t be happier with AVAST. Thanks for your help.
The reason you couldn’t send or receive is more likely to be down to your firewall blocking ashMaiSv.exe, the avast! email Scanner. Ensure that you firewall (which is ?) allows access to ashMaiSv.exe.
Thanks for the help, I think I have solved the problem. It was ZoneAlarm. All normal now.
No problem, welcome to the forums.
