I’m a brand new avast! user, and I need assurance that my emails are getting scanned. When I used Norton, there was some sort of interface that popped up when sending or receiving emails. However, avast doesn’t seem to give me an indication of whether or not an email scan is happening.
Is there some way to check this? I have tried sending emails to myself, but again, it’s hard to tell if everything is working the way it’s supposed to. Under avast’s Internet Mail, I am told that the provider is currently running. I think I’m just not sure if I have my configurations right.
Hi, click the ‘a’ ball in the system tray (next to the clock), in the window that appears click ‘details’. Then click ‘internet mail’ followed by customize. You will find settings there to insert notes into the email saying whether or not it’s clean.
Enable show “detailed information” in the mail scanner.
Click on the blue ball > than (depending on the email client you are using) outlook/exchange or Internet mail > customize > advanched
Outlook/Exchange server is if you use Outlook (NOT Outlook Express) or Exchange as mail client.
This is also explained in Avast’s help file:
Internet mail settings: Advanched
Outlook/Exchange settings: Advanched
I went to Internet Mail/customize, and then clicked the box to insert note into clean messages. I tried sending myself another email, but didn’t get any message that the message was clean or otherwise.
My problem is probably that I am unfamiliar with the terminology used here. I use the mailbox that comes with my Earthlink software. I do not use Outlook. Do I have to use some sort of special configuration for Earthlink’s mailbox? This is all common, basic knowledge to most of you, but this is new stuff to me. Please help, and please send replies in second grade language.
Also, I have a free mail account with MyWay. Do I have to configure that account also. If so, how?
If this isn’t hilarious enough for you, could someone please explain what is meant by format of the notes that are inserted into clean/infected messages: HTML or TXT. ???
Thanks for your continued patience. I plead total ignorance.
I don’t know Earthlink nor MyWay. But I suggest you upgrade to 4.5. That version handles mail protection differently (or at least the setup for it) and does know how to handle more mail clients than 4.1.
Hi, sorry that didn’t work If you do decide to update to 4.5 please be aware that it is still being tested. Are there any Earthlink users here who can help?
HTML= Hypertext Mark-up Language and contains commands to say how the text should be displayed.
TXT is simply text.
The email wizard should set your MyWay account automatically.
