This seems to be a new issue, but the “Insert note into clean message (outgoing)” option doesn’t stay disabled for me (and has actually recently re-enabled itself).
I tried following the “How to disable Avast Email signature” instructions (including restarting), but no matter what I do, the option turns itself back on shortly after I disable it.
I did a search, but the only other people I found reporting this were using Avast Business, which doesn’t apply to me.
Sure, I won’t deny that the Mail Shield setting would be harder to find, but making the Mail Shield setting completely useless is just a bug!
There’s several issues I see here:
[ol]- “Enable Avast email signature” and “Insert note into clean message (outgoing)” control two different settings, rather than controlling the same setting.
“Enable Avast email signature” overrides “Insert note into clean message (outgoing)”, making the latter useless.
“Enable Avast email signature” defaults to true, regardless of the current state of “Insert note into clean message (outgoing)”.[/ol]
Admittedly points 2 and 3 would become moot if point 1 was fixed. Either that or “Insert note into clean message (outgoing)” should just be removed (which would also be confusing, since then the settings for controlling signature insertion in received messages would be in a different place to sent messages!).
I’m honestly really annoyed that “Enable Avast email signature” overrode my current behaviour. It just reads like “let’s punish the users who knew where the Mail Shield setting was, by re-enabling the signature, and making the old setting useless… nothing like some free advertising!”.
The reason there is a second option, is for those using only webmail and don’t have the Mail Shield installed, they wouldn’t have been able to stop it.
Looks like they need to finesse this duplication bug.
It is never a good idea to open a topic so old, much has changed in three years with both email clients and antivirus versions.
I certainly don’t see it, I have disabled email signatures and they have remained that way since I disabled it.
If you are having an issue we are going to need more information on your system. If you have an old avast version, you will have to know that if a new program update resolves this issue, old programs prior to the update aren’t updated retrospectively.
