Email timeout

Using Avast, I have problems with OE timing out when receiving emails. Say if there are 5 emails coming in and one of them is a 1MB mpg or something, the large one causes a timeout and I have to “send/recv” again.
Should I set OE not to timeout within 1 minute? Or is there a setting within avast to cure this?

Hi pcs800,
increasing the timeout in OE to i.e 300 seconds is a good idea, you should then also set the same value in avast - internet mail, advanced tab

I did so in avast, but can’t find it in OE.

In OE you find it in the advanced tab of the account settings - you have to define it for each mail acount. It’s called “Server timelimit” - or similar, I have the german version - with a left value of “low” and a right value of “high” - just move it to the right and it shows you the value in minutes and seconds

Does this help ?

ahh yes, i found it now. thanks. Yes this does help. I have not received a large email since i changed the setting but if it still causes problems i will post back here.

You’re welcome.

I also have sometimes timeouts, even I have a 2MB connection and set the timeouts to 300sec - sometimes the connection lacks, sometimes the mail server doesn’t response fast enough
