Empty Scan Window version 10.2.2214

When I scan a file a get an empty scan window which I’ve attached. If I rescan it I still get an empty file but sometimes get a pop-up that says there was no virus found although it doesn’t give the file name but instead several question marks which I’ve attached as well.

Windows Vista x64
Avast version : 2015 10.2.2214

Thanks

Perform a repair of avast and see if it solves it.
If not, perform a clean installation.

Repair didn’t work. I should add that sometimes a pop-up not only comes up but a new window that says the scan didn’t find anything. However, the initial empty window remains open and I have to close it.

What’s the best procedure for a clean install.

Thanks.

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

I see a red border around both attached snapshots. Any chance this is the avast! sandbox you are running these scans in?

There’s no sandbox in the free version, it might be another SB though…!?

If you mean Sandboxie, (SB), possible, but don’t know why user would be running his antivirus in a sandbox?

Well, let’s wait for his/her reply.

The red border is part of the Snipping tool I use to take a screen pic.

The uninstall Utility is better than an uninstall from control panel?

Yep.

Okay, thanks for all the help. Will post again if I have a problem.

You’re welcome.
