I tried this with Safari and Firefox, going to the forums results in a blanco page on Safari and a warning on Firefox. There are no problems with the avast webshield turned off.

What is the warning on firefox ?
I have been able to visit the link that you posted with firefox 15.0.1 and the web shield enabled without problem I browsed a few of the sub-forums and topics and no issue.
If you can explain in more detail what it is you are doing and I will try to replicate it ?
I can confirm the problem mentioned by Perplexity.
When I go with Firefox 15.0.1 to the website I get the error that (roughly translated) the connection has been reinitialized during loading of the page.
As soon as I disable Web Shield in Avast the page load without any problem.
The problem does also occur with Google Chrome.
I have the same warning as Phoerax.
My Firefox is dutch so I also have to translate it.
I’m not sure why the connection has been reinitialized error occurs (I only know I didn’t have that problem on the site), the web shield should scan and alert to any infection but not block.
I can only assume that this is some sort of conflict with the web shield, do you have any other security software installed (firewall, anti-spyware, etc.) installed ?
I have several firefox add-ons NoScript, etc. which were selectively allowed on the site, I don’t know if you also have any such add-ons on your browser/s.
I’ve tried with no extensions active in Safari and I still get the same result. Are you using Avast! for Mac or the PC version?
No mine is the PC version, but my thinking is/was that essentially the web shield is going to be handling the functionality in the same way. Though there is possibly a difference in the browser side, if they are Mac versions.
The reason is, that http://forums.amplitude-studios.com/ returns invalid HTTP responses. The issue is the same as discussed here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=103335.0.
However, there will be a workaround for such broken servers in the next program update, which will “solve” the issue.
