i just got a new one and it still tells me this?

any clues as to why

About what version you talk, home or pro?

There is obviously something wrong with the expiry date “License is valid until: 12/31/69” because for a home edition it would be a max of 14 months and for a pro license it would be 12 months, so the expiry should be either 2005 or 2006.

Have you at any stage altered the system date that you are aware of?

I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

If no joy, uninstall reboot, install and enter the reg key again.

Check your system time/date.
If it is incorrected it may be time for you to change the cmos battery.

I just got the same error after Avast Pro 4 was registered and working fine for 5 months.

My License.DAT file seems to be missing, at least it is not in the “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA” folder.

Same 12/31/69 date in the Setup.log file, my system date is fine.

Running Vista Business x64.

Are you in the correct forum?
I’m using avast Pro and I don’t have license.dat file.
Seems you’re using server/ADNM version.
