error after recent program update

hi ;D

im using win xp pro on pIII 800mhz intel on asus mobo.
recently i updated the Avast antivirus program and i am unable to open the antivirus scanner.
the on-access protection seems to be working fine.

when i start the antivirus program , at the splash screen i get an error which says --UNKNOWN ERROR. Storage cannot be created for “splash” task.

when i press ok on that error , i get another error screen
which says – configuration is not loaded properly. error: dbsCreateObject.

then i again press ok on this error (as i have no other option) and i get a third error which says-- UNKNOWN ERROR Program cannot save parameters to the storage!(Error: dbsCreateObject)

Now please help me , i have also tried the repair option in the add/remove programs in control panel.
Also i would like to mention that im using zonealarm pro as firewall.

ash, maybe the problem is on your avast4.ini file and your ODBC drivers… But I’m not sure I’ll have to let this for Igor or Vlk.

What setting you have at [Common] section of that file and the value Database. Is ODBC or XML. This is mostly concerning storage and databases problems may be related to the database drivers that could be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/data.
