Error after updating, Avast will not run

I recently tried to manually update one of my managed users to the latest version of Avast. The update appeared to work properly, but a subsequent reboot brought up the following popup error message (immediately after logging in):

Popup Error Message:
Entry Point Not Found : The procedure entry point cmnbInitExt could not be located in the dynamic link library aswCmnB.dll.

The following Avast services will not start:

“C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswServ.exe” (Automatic)
“C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe” (Automatic)
“C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswMaiSv.exe” /service (Manual)
“C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\AvAgent.exe” /ServiceStart (Automatic)

I tried a Repair install (from Add/Remove Programs), but that failed with the following error: “There was an error while changing the product configuration.” So, I uninstalled Avast, rebooted, reinstalled Avast, rebooted, and everything started working (older Avast program version).

So, once again, I ran a manual program update (by right-clicking on the blue ball), and rebooted. The same error returned. Yet again, the Repair install failed. I found a similar topic here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=19094.0, so I also searched for the file aswCmnB.dll. I only found one instance, in the Avast program folder.

Today, a second user began experiencing this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Please search your entire hard drive for all occurences of the file aswCmnB.dll.

Normally, there should be only ONE such file, residing in the avast folder.
