Hi, I tried searching to find this - but can’t find it. If it’s already been previously mentioned, sorry.
Whenever I go to shut down the computer I keep getting an error from Ashdisp.exe saying an error occured “Ox7c910e013”. Then I click ok to terminate the program and it shuts down.
No, Avast! is not scanning when I shut down. Nothing apparently in the logs. The problem only seems to occur when Zone Alarm is reaching one of those 170 000 K memory periods. Could it be related?
Also, I tried Sygate over ZA and it keeps freezing. I think I might try Outpost.
I think you will find that Outpost is not as easy to use as Zone Alarm.
ZA usually works fine with Avast on W98/ME/2000/XP that I have running.
Technical’s advice is sound. We need to have “one” configuration in place so we can troubleshoot the problem.
As a simple step, run Diskscan and Defrag before installing any other software.
Make sure that your Windows OS is updated with all current security patches.
What I would ask of you is to shut down whatever firewall you install and run Avast . See if it runs normally and exits properly on shutdown. Then try your new firewall
It is hard to say now if Avast is the problem, in that Sygate froze the computer as well.
It is also possible that your computer has a parasite (trojan or worm as Eddy mentioned) If you notice at the bottom of Eddy’s post, he has links to Hijack This. It is a program that you can install easily and will help us analyze the condition of your computer. Also download the Hijack This Analyzer, or ask Eddy for the online link where you simply do a cut and paste and the online analyzer does the rest. It is a fantastic tool!
Are there any unpXXXXXXX files (X = some number) in the \Data\Log folder with the timestamp corresponding to the shutdown (when the error message appeared)?
Hi jack this log(note: QQ is a Chinese chat service!)
