Has anyone had the problem when starting avast: “storage cannot be created for the ‘splash’ task”? The program further states that error “dbsCreateObject” has occured and the program won’t start. I have tried re-install the program without any luck.

A forum search for “dbsCreateObject” will return many hits as this has been discussed numerous times.
Usually changing the database=odbc from to database=xml resolves this in the home version, it is not such a good option for the pro version. Which version are you using?
You can manually edit the avast4.ini file (using a text editor) and change database=odbc to database=xml, this is in the [Common] section.
Or you can try RejZor’s AEC avast! External Control program and change the database type to XML
