After I installed (clean installation ) avast, and after I click the shortcut to start it, it shows this error. Please could you help?

I have tried to install Avast a few times, I delete it from Add and remove programs, and from registry, and program files, (all cleand up),
Always come up same error, after the installation.
(note): I had Avast working nice for years, but now can’t reinstall it
Please could you help?
OS: windows vista home premiun, SP1
AMD Athalon 64x2
Dell Inspiron 531s
Win Sys 32.
3GB ram
Well error 5 is access denied, which is strange, are you installing this from an account with administrator privileges ?
You shouldn’t have to click any shortcut to start avast, it is a resident on-access scanner, so it starts when you boot.
Try a clean reinstall.
, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to first Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.
- Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
- run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
- install the latest version, reboot.
I did uninstall it, but serching on the registry I found this file ( avast!(Asynchronous Virus Monitor)) That can’t be deleted even from safe mode.
Is this file need to be removed or should i leave it alone?
I try to install again after you tell me about this file.
Thanks
But did you use the uninstall utility that I gave the like for, since you are experiencing problems with install/uninstall. The uninstall utility should clean-up registry entries, but it can’t do that whilst avast is installed and running, which is why there is the comment about running that from safe mode.
In safe mode avast ‘doesn’t’ run so it isn’t the avast self-defence module that would be protecting avast registry entries.
Sorry, what file, what you posted isn’t a file name, so I haven’t the slightest idea what it is.
Edit: I have done some searching and C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\aavmker4.sys is one of the avast drivers.
http://www.file.net/process/aavmker4.sys.html
The process avast! Base Kernel-Mode Device Driver for Windows NT/2000/XP belongs to the software avast! Antivirus System by ALWIL Software (www.avast.com).Description: Aavmker4.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 26888 bytes (27% of all occurrence), 24304 bytes, 24144 bytes, 26624 bytes, 24560 bytes.
Ok, the avast uninstaller works perfect, I installed again (twice)(Last version), and the error windows pups up as soon as windows comes back from restart.
I like to have Avast as my antivirus. What else I should do?.
Error:ashDisp.exe.
This application failed to anitialize properly error:(0x0000005) Click OK to terminate the application)
I honestly don’t know what to suggest as these 00000005 errors are access/permission issues and I have zero Vista experience.
I asked this but didn’t get an answer - Well error 5 is access denied, which is strange, are you installing this from an account with administrator privileges ?
If installed from a user account I don’t know if this would give this sort of error.
Try right click on the avast installation file and select Run As and go for administrator, you have to enter the password for the administrator. You would obviously have to have uninstalled avast before you try this option.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
What other security software do you have installed ?
Sorry but I’m clutching at straws here as I can’t understand why this access denied error is being displayed.
I did that but the dammed thing always there.I guess if you dont find out the anwser I have to giveup.
I am the only administrator in this computer.
There was no other antivirus inatalled.Every thing was done by the book.
Thanks anyway.
Sorry hopefully someone with some vista experience might be able to offer a suggestion or two.
You could try a forum search for failed to initialize properly (0x0000005) and Vista and see if that reveals anything, I doubt you would be the first that it has happened to.
I suggest an installation from the scratch:
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
- Boot.
- Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
- Boot.
- Install again the latest avast! version.
- Boot.
- Check and post the results.
We have already tried that avenue, my reply #1, #3 and balado reply #4.
I know… I just compiled your reply #1, #3 and balado reply #4 to make it easy for the user. Am I wrong doing this?
Not doing wrong, but balado hadn’t reported having any problems following the original instructions and reported they worked (uninstall utility), but was still getting the permissions error when windows opens after the install.
So her has followed the instructions but still has the same original permissions (access denied) problem which has to be down to something in the user account being used or some vista anomaly and I haven’t a clue about vista.
