Error installing avast

Dear Avast Team,

I recently tried to install the most recent avast business version on one of our office computers and ran into this error:

An error 0(00000000) has occured.
Last performed operation was:
spawning

The program was not installed. Every time I try install it I get the same error. What’s going on?

Can you try to download the setup again?

Welcome to the forums, Edward

It would also be wise to change your user name so that it does not include an email address and make the email none public in the user profile unless you enjoy receiving spam emails.

Spambots regularly crawl public forums looking for such email addresses and this is a public forum.

Hello and thank you for the welcome. Sorry I have not viewed this post in some time. I will try to redownload the softwear and make the changes to my account you suggested.

Post back later,

Edward

Alright, I redownloaded the new version of Avast and had the same error.

What could be causing the computer to toss that error?

Edward

Well the strange thing is that the windows file system error 0 = the operation completed successfully. So this is a little strange.

If you have had a previous installation it would probably be best to do a clean install.

  • Download the latest version of avast pro, 5.0.545 (presumably this is the one you have) http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0).

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

OK, I will try that next time the computer is available.

Thanks for your response,

Edward

You’re welcome, let us know how you get on.
