Error Message During Install

Hi. During Avast setup on a new PC with Vista OS (64 bit) I received the following message in the setup report:

(time) Internet: ERROR: HttpGetWininet, catch returned 0x00002EE7.

Install then stopped. Any thoughts on what may be preventing install are appreciated. (Not sure if it’s relevant, but I noticed that IE (64 bit) connects to the Internet but both the 32 bit version of IE and Firefox do not connect.)

Did the computer come with any type of Anti-virus pre-installed?

If so, please list so that we can give you a link to a proper removal tool.

Thanks for responding. It came with McAfee installed, but I had removed that; perhaps I didn’t catch it all.

McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.
